Traditional Chinese welcome for Queensland Cabinet

The Chinese Community in Brisbane marked the first Cabinet meeting of the new Bligh Government with a Lion Dance outside the Executive Building on Monday 30 March 2009.
The Lion Dance has been part of Chinese culture for thousands of years and is performed on auspicious occasions, particularly inaugural events. The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity and good luck.

The Queensland Chinese Forum presented a cheque for $23,061 to the Premier's Flood Relief Appeal.

Abbess Master Chueh Shan, Buddha's Light International Association of Qld, makes a presentation to Premier Anna Bligh. The wording was written by Ven Master Hsin Yun, Founding Master, Buddha's Light International Association of Qld for the Year of Ox. The English translation is "Earnest Cultivation Yields Fruitful Harvest".
