Assistance to Samoa, Tonga and Sumatra

In October 2009, Samoa, Tonga and the Indonesian Island of Sumatra experienced earthquakes and a tsunami.

The Queensland Government worked with the federal government and other states to provide assistance including:

  • $2 million initial support package from the Australian government, which includes Australian medical and emergency services personnel travelling to Samoa
  • urgently needed medical supplies chartered as part of the support package
  • collecting funds to provide relief assistance.

Donations

The Premier launched a disaster relief appeal for the South Pacific (Samoa and Tonga) Tsunami and the Earthquake in the Indonesian Archipelago. The Queensland Government made a contribution of $500,000 to start the appeal.

This appeal is now closed to donations.
